Vol. 530 No. 4

Written Answers. - Medical Cards.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

133 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Health and Children if a person who does not hold a general medical service card is debarred from admission to a health board's own long stay unit; if income is a barrier to admitting an elderly person to a health board long stay unit in their own town; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4079/01]

A person is not deemed to be ineligible for admission to a long stay unit by virtue of not having a medical card. Admittance to a long stay unit is primarily based on need.
