Vol. 530 No. 5

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

167 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of applications for major capital works currently under consideration in his Department in respect of both primary schools and second level schools; the names of the schools; the cost of the works in each case; the way in which he will proceed with these applications; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4355/01]

In regard to the primary sector, there are more than 300 major projects in architectural planning. Major projects in this context are those of an estimated value of £250,000 or more. In addition, there are approximately 400 applications being processed which have not gone to architectural planning.

I will arrange to have a list of the 300 projects in architectural planning forwarded to the Deputy.

There is a substantial volume of second level projects at varying stages of architectural planning. Details of these projects are being extracted and will be forwarded to the Deputy within the next week or so.

It is not the practice of my Department to indicate in advance of obtaining tenders the estimated cost of a project. The Deputy will appreciate that the publication of this information would compromise the tendering process.
