Vol. 530 No. 5

Written Answers. - Euro Changeover.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

17 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the plans being put in place to assist farmers and the industry in general with the changeover to the euro; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3875/01]

My Department has prepared a detailed euro changeover plan which sets out the general principles and policies of the Department in relation to the changeover to the euro as well as detailed plans in respect of each division within the Department and each State body under the aegis of the Department. A copy of this plan is available to the public and is also accessible on the Department's website.

An explanatory note has also been prepared setting out the Department's plans in relation to the euro, which will be circulated to every farmer in the country later this month, together with the Euro Changeover Board of Ireland's leaflet on the euro cash changeover plans. An explanatory note on the euro will also be included in the Department's publication, Schemes and Services 2001, which is due to issue in March of this year.

Nearer the actual changeover date advertisements will be placed in the national and local press setting out the detailed arrangements in relation to the changeover to the euro. My Department will continue to display posters on the euro and to make Euro Changeover Board of Ireland leaflets available in all its regional and local offices. In addition to the general information arrangements already outlined, my Department will issue detailed information notices on the euro as appropriate to both the farming and trade organisations.
