Vol. 530 No. 6

Written Answers. - Family Friendly Work Practices.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

166 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the way in which his Department intends to mark the family friendly workplace day on 1 March 2001; the initiatives he has in this area; and the way in which family friendly initiatives are being implemented for the staff in his Department. [4715/01]

My Department operates to the most flexible extent possible the full range of family friendly policies initiated by the Government, that is, flexible working hours, career breaks, job sharing, term-time leave, special leave, paid and unpaid, force majeure leave, etc. In addition, this Department has made provision for crèche facilities in the context of the current transfer of functions to Backweston and is also investigating the possibility of home working on a pilot basis.

In the light of concerns expressed by the national framework committee for the development of family friendly policies, this Department will be encouraging staff at all levels to go home on time on 1 March 2001.
