Vol. 530 No. 6

Written Answers. - Speech Therapy Service.

Denis Naughten

Question:

215 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will indicate the level of speech therapy services available to school-going children; the shortfall which exists in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4877/01]

The information sought by the Deputy is not readily available to my Department. I have asked the Eastern Regional Health Authority and the health boards for the information and I will forward it to the Deputy when it becomes available to me.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

216 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children the speech therapy services available to a person (details supplied) in St. Joseph's School, Cabra, Dublin 7; his views on the adequacy of these services; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4933/01]

Emmet Stagg

Question:

245 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the fact that speech therapy has not been provided to students at St. Joseph's secondary school for deaf boys, Cabra, Dublin 7 (details supplied); if he will have investigations made into the matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4737/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 216 and 245 together.

The provision of health and personal social services, including speech and language therapy, for people with physical and sensory disabilities is a matter for the relevant health board. Accordingly, the Deputy's question has been forwarded to the chief executive officer of the Eastern Regional Health Authority with a request that he examine the matter and reply directly to the Deputy as a matter of urgency.
