Vol. 530 No. 6

Written Answers. - Driving Licences.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

296 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the proposals he has to rectify the situation where old age pensioners or those advancing towards old age pension are disadvantaged by the regulations now in force as against costs for driving licences (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4612/01]

Molloy): Arising from a review of the overall driving licence fee arrangements by my Department, it is proposed to introduce more equitable licence fee arrangements for persons aged more than 70 years. Amending legislation is required to implement this change. The necessary amendment will be provided for in the Motor Tax Bill, 2001 which will be published shortly.
