Vol. 530 No. 6

Written Answers. - Family Friendly Work Practices.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

339 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the way in which her Department intends to mark the Family Friendly Workplace Day on 1 March 2001; the initiatives she has in this area; and the way in which family friendly initiatives are being implemented for the staff in her Department. [4720/01]

My Department will mark Family Friendly Workplace Day on 1 March by distributing to the staff a summary of the family friendly schemes available to civil servants. These schemes, which may be applied for by the staff of my Department and which are in addition to statutory entitlements such as maternity leave, adoptive leave and parental leave, are as follows: flexitime job sharing term time paternity leave career breaks as well as a scheme for worksharing which will shortly be introduced throughout the Civil Service. The personnel division of my Department will also organise briefing sessions on that day for staff interested in the various family friendly initiatives and will dedicate particular telephone lines to questions from individual staff members on the schemes which are in operation. Management of the Department will encourage staff who work long hours to go home on time on that day.
