Vol. 530 No. 6

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

389 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation when payment of a grant will be made to a club (details supplied) in County Cork under the sports capital programme; and the reason for the delay in payment of this grant. [4824/01]

The club in question was allocated grants totalling £40,000, £10,000 in 1996, £10,000 in 1997 and £20,000 in 1999, under the sports capital programme operated by my Department. Grants allocated in 1996 and 1997 have been paid to the club in full.

One of the conditions of the sports capital programme has been that the payment of a grant in relation to any project receiving total grant aid in excess of £39,000 is not made by my Department until a deed of trust has been executed. As the total charge in this case is £40,000, a deed of trust is required before the 1999 grant can be formally confirmed or payments made.

A draft deed of trust was sent to the solicitor acting on behalf the club on 18 January 2001. When the deed has been executed on behalf of the club, it should be returned to the Chief State Solicitor's office.

As soon as the deed has been signed by my Department and the searches on the trustees have been completed by the CSSO, arrangements will be made to pay the grant without delay.
