Vol. 530 No. 6

Written Answers. - Departmental Bodies.

Seán Haughey

Question:

89 Mr. Haughey asked the Taoiseach the authorities, agencies, organisations and institutions established by legislation which are ultimately accountable to his Department and which deal with issues which were once the responsibility of his Department; the year of their establishment; the most recent annual budget of each body; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4560/01]

The Central Statistics Office was founded in 1949 and operates under the Statistics Act, 1993. The net total minus appropriation in aid of budget to year end 31 December 2000 was £22,211,000. The net total allocated for 2001 to CSO is £43,433,000. The reason for the significant increase in budget is that the census will be held this year.

There are a number of non-statutory bodies under my Department's aegis, while there are also a number of bodies such as the State legal offices for which I have ministerial responsibility in respect of certain administrative matters. None of these bodies are authorities, agencies, organisations or institutions which fully meet all the criteria in the Deputy's question.
