Vol. 531 No. 1

Written Answers. - Medical Cards.

John McGuinness

Question:

91 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children if his Department will review an application by a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny for a medical card with a view to granting the card based on the person's financial circumstances. [5028/01]

Under the Health Act, 1970, the determination of eligibility for health services is the responsibility of the chief executive officer of the appropriate health board, and neither I nor my Department has a function in the matter.

As the determination of eligibility of the person concerned rests with the chief executive officer of the South Eastern Health Board, I have asked him to have the matter investigated and to reply directly to the Deputy.
