Vol. 531 No. 5

Written Answers. - Judicial Conduct and Discipline.

Michael D. Higgins

Question:

23 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the progress made to date in his consideration of the recommendations contained in the report of the committee chaired by the Chief Justice, calling for a judicial council to deal with problems of judicial conduct and discipline; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6141/01]

As I stated in a reply to a parliamentary question on 7 February last, I fully agree with the report's core recommendation that formal structures should exist to deal with instances of judicial misbehaviour.
