Vol. 531 No. 5

Written Answers. - Luas Project.

Tony Gregory

Question:

65 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Public Enterprise when construction work on the Luas project will commence in the Smithfield area of Dublin 7. [6319/01]

I am informed by the light rail project office that site preparatory work and utilities diversion work to facilitate the light rail line A will begin in the Smithfield area in March 2001. These initial works will be carried out on Phoenix Street, which links Bow Street and Smithfield, and across Smithfield between Phoenix Street and Arran Quay Terrace. This should take approximately six weeks to complete. Further utility diversion works in the Smithfield area are likely to be completed by the end of 2001 and the main track laying and cabling of the line in the area will commence in spring 2002.
