Vol. 531 No. 5

Written Answers. - State Airports.

Deirdre Clune

Question:

66 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Public Enterprise when the proposed development of the 40 acre cargo site at Cork Airport will proceed; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [6364/01]

Proposals in relation to specific developments at the three State airports, including Cork Airport, are primarily a day to day matter for Aer Rianta.

However, I have been informed by Aer Rianta that later this year, an aircraft parking area capable of accommodating two or three aircraft will be developed on the edge of the proposed 40 acre cargo site. This is part of Aer Rianta's overall long-term, that is, post 2003, plan to develop the new cargo site at Cork Airport. The company envisages that, ultimately, all cargo activities will move to this site and the areas which are currently used for cargo operations will in time be developed to meet passenger traffic requirements. Some preliminary works are being carried out at the new site in conjunction with current and planned infrastructural works at Cork Airport.
