Vol. 532 No. 1

Written Answers. - Health Services.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

152 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Health and Children the proposals he has to set up an inquiry into delays in health services in Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6409/01]

The provision of medical treatment, in this instance, is the statutory responsibility of the South Eastern Health Board. I understand the board is aware of the difficulties in accessing some specialties for out-patient appointments at the Waterford regional hospital. The board has applied to my Department for the appointment of additional consultants at the hospital. These posts, which are subject to approval by Comhairle na nOspidéal, are being considered in the context of available resources and the priority accorded to them by the board. I have no plans to set up an inquiry into the reported delays in relation to health services in Waterford.

Question No. 153 answered with Question No. 149.
