294 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of company cars seized by the gardaí during 2000; the number seized in the Dublin 1 area; if a location (details supplied) is experiencing ongoing problems with such cars. [6463/01]
I am informed by the Garda that 5,483 vehicles were seized under section 41 of the Road Traffic Act, 1994, by gardaí in the Dublin metropolitan region in the year 2000 and that 854 of these were seized in Dublin 1. Details in relation to the State as a whole are not readily available. The Garda states that car seizures are spread equally throughout the Dublin 1 area and that no one particular area experiences any more problems than others. I understand that only one vehicle was seized under section 41 in the location referred to by the Deputy.
