Vol. 532 No. 1

Written Answers. - Data Protection.

Nora Owen

Question:

343 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Education and Science the action he proposes to take arising out of his use of information relating to teachers in making deductions from their salaries in December 2000; if he will appeal the decision of the Data Protection Commissioners in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6418/01]

My Department received the decision of the Data Protection Commissioner in this matter on 20 February and is considering it, in consultation with the Attorney General's Office. I have made no decision as yet on the action to be taken on foot of the commissioner's decision. Any appeal must be lodged with the Circuit Court within 21 days of the decision.
