Vol. 532 No. 1

Written Answers. - Medical Faculties.

Liz McManus

Question:

342 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of places available in each of the five medical schools with an intake of students in 2000; the number in each school which go to citizens of the Republic of Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6413/01]

The following table showing the provisional intake figures for full-time undergraduate courses in the medical faculties in the 2000-01 academic year.

Intake quotas apply to a number of courses in the health care areas. The final report of the Points Commission considers that there should be a regular review of places on courses with capped numbers. My Department has, in consultation with the Department of Health and Children and the Higher Education Authority, been reviewing the quota arrangements for various health care courses and will continue to monitor intake requirements on an ongoing basis.
