Vol. 532 No. 1

Written Answers. - Industrial Relations.

Austin Deasy

Question:

391 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the industrial action taken by the ASTI; and the efforts he is making to resolve the issue. [6943/01]

The Labour Court, acting on an ad hoc basis, was asked at the end of January to hear the issues in the ASTI dispute.

The court held a formal hearing on 9 February at which it received both written and oral submissions from the ASTI and from the Departments of Education and Science and Finance. The court's examination of the issues in the dispute is continuing and they have indicated to the ASTI that their finding will be available by 10 March.

All parties should await the outcome of the Labour Court's examination and give full consideration to its recommendations when they are received. I am sure everyone would agree that this is the best way forward in seeking a resolution of this difficult dispute.
