Vol. 532 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water Quality.

Deirdre Clune

Question:

129 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Finance the action he has taken following recent reports of contamination of the water supply to the EU Food and Veterinary Office in County Meath; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6445/01]

Works to treat the water supply to the new EU food and veterinary offices at Grange, County Meath, were included in the contract for the construction of these offices which was placed on 18 October 1999. The water treatment plant on site will include reverse osmosis, UV light, radiation treatment of drinking water, water softening and carbon filtering.

This water treatment plant will ensure that any water it treats, from whatever source, will comply fully with EU Directive 98/83/EC of 3 November 1998 which was enacted into Irish law in December 2000.
