Vol. 532 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Ivor Callely

Question:

203 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education and Science if satisfactory school bus arrangements are in place for St. Paul's Special School Beaumont, Dublin 9; the other issues that are under consideration for St. Paul's Special School; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7040/01]

I understand that the school transport services to the school referred to by the Deputy are currently operating satisfactorily. I recently met with representatives of the school in question. The delegation raised a number of issues including staffing, accommodation, pre-school services and the provision of a dedicated school bus. I undertook to have these examined by my Department and they are currently being investigated by my Department's inspectorate.

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that pending completion of this investigation two additional special needs assistants have been sanctioned for the school. Officials of my Department will be in further contact with the school authorities as soon as their examination of the issues is completed.
