Vol. 532 No. 3

Written Answers. - Personal Injuries Tribunal.

Ivor Callely

Question:

78 Mr. Callely asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the length of time the work to establish a personal injuries tribunal is under consideration; the likely time schedule for proposals to be actioned by Government; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7248/01]

The Special Working Group on Personal Injury Compensation was established in December 1996, following Government consideration of the Deloitte & Touche report, An Economic Evaluation on Insurance Costs in Ireland.

Following the group's first report in May 1997, I received a second and final report from the group in April last. This report together with a memorandum for Government, containing the main recommendation of the group, has been circulated to all relevant Departments, agencies and offices. The Government will consider this matter later this month.
