Bernard Allen

Question:

379 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the cost of having a baby in each of our public maternity hospitals for public and private patients. [8036/01]

Casemix data collected in my Department indicates that the average cost of having a baby by normal delivery without complications in a maternity unit of a public hospital is £908. I have asked the chief executive officer of each health board and the regional chief executive of the Eastern Regional Health Authority to collate the figures for the maternity hospitals under their remit and to forward them directly to the Deputy.
