Vol. 532 No. 4

Written Answers. - Swimming Pool Projects.

John Perry

Question:

662 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will consider the installation of a swimming pool in the new school which amalgamates Banada secondary and Marist secondary school, Tubbercurry, County Sligo in view of the fact it is under the new public private partnership initiative; if he will give the necessary authorisation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8002/01]

In the public private partnership process my Department's role is to indicate the educational outputs required for a new school building. Decisions on the provision of any additional facilities are taken by the preferred bidder on a commercial basis.

It is therefore not open to me to seek or authorise the provision of additional facilities for the schools in the public private partnership process.
