Vol. 533 No. 2

Written Answers. - Cystic Fibrosis Unit.

Dan Neville

Question:

111 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will sanction and provide the resources for the establishment of an adult cystic fibrosis unit at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital, Limerick. [8495/01]

The provision of medical services is the statutory responsibility of the Mid-Western Health Board in the first instance.

The Mid-Western Health Board has sent my Department a copy of a report of a review group on services for adults with cystic fibrosis in the mid-western region which is being examined by my Department. The question of providing additional funding for the development of adult cystic fibrosis services in the Mid-Western Health Board will be considered in the context of the additional funding to be made available for future hospital service developments in 2002 and the priority attached to this service by the MidWestern Health Board.
