Vol. 533 No. 3

Written Answers. - Care of the Elderly.

Dan Neville

Question:

185 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Health and Children his views on whether there is need for the establishment of day care services for older people in west Limerick; the reason for refusing funding for a centre in Newcastle West; the proposal he has to provide such a facility which was unanimously passed at the July 2000 meeting of the Mid-Western Health Board; his further views on the recent submission by officials of the Mid-Western Health Board; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8622/01]

As the Deputy is aware, the provision of health services in Limerick is a matter for the Mid-Western Health Board. Under the National Development Plan 2001-2006, £16.349 million has been allocated to the Mid-Western Health Board for services for older people. It is a matter for the board to determine the priority attached to developments from within its revenue and NDP funding allocations.
