Vol. 533 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Alan M. Dukes

Question:

458 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in relation to an application by a school (details supplied) in County Kildare to construct a sports hall; if he will ensure the application is dealt with as speedily as possible in his Department; and when it is expected the project might go to tender. [9822/01]

Approval in principle has been given for the provision of a PE hall at the school to which the Deputy refers.

The building unit of my Department is currently preparing PE hall templates. It is expected that the templates will standardise the construction of PE halls at second level schools and will reduce architectural planning processes considerably. The templates are being piloted in four schools initially and are expected to be available in the near future for generic use.
Once available, one of the two templates will be used to plan the PE hall at the school to which the Deputy refers.
