Vol. 534 No. 1

Written Answers. - Housing Development.

Thomas Gildea

Question:

179 Mr. Gildea asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if his attention has been drawn to a proposed housing development at Drimnasillagh, Glenties County Donegal, if his Department will be involved in providing funding for the proposed social housing development, if the proposed development will be subject to the standard public tendering process if planning is granted, and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10109/01]

I understand the Deputy is referring to a project which is proposed to be carried out with the assistance of my Department's rental subsidy scheme. This scheme is administered by the relevant local authority. Issues such as planning, site selection, tender procedures, and the suitability of particular projects in relation to local needs etc., are matters for the local authority to determine. My Department's role in relation to these projects concerns the issue of general guidelines and the approval of funding for individual projects submitted by a local authority for sanction. No application for funding has been received in my Department in this particular case.
