Written Answers. - Teaching Qualifications.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

214 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Education and Science if he is in a position to furnish the information sought in Parliamentary Question No. 432 of 27 February 2001 concerning the qualifications of teachers working in schools designated disadvantaged; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10169/01]

Fourteen per cent of teachers in primary schools do not have a Bachelor of Education or the NT. These are fully trained national teachers who qualified before the introduction of the degree course in 1974. Fifteen per cent of the teachers working in primary schools with disadvantaged status are non Bachelor of Education or NT. The data is based on information obtained from the primary teachers database.
