Question:

292 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science the names and addresses of all the members of the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10400/01]

On 26 February last I established the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland, NQAI, on a statutory basis.

The task of the of the new authority will be to establish and maintain a framework of qualifications based on standards of knowledge, skill or competence to be acquired by learners and to facilitate continuous lifelong learning through the promotion of access, transfer and progression for all learners. It will also establish and promote the maintenance and improvement of the standards of awards of the further and higher education and training sector, other than in the seven existing universities and liaise with bodies outside the State for the mutual recognition of awards at transnational level.
Mr. Dick Langford, Chief Executive Officer, City of Cork Vocational Education Committee was appointed chairperson of the authority. The other members nominated to the authority to date are as follows: Ms Inez Bailey, National Adult Literacy Agency, 76 Lower Gardiner Street, Dublin 1; Ms Aileen O'Donoghue, Irish Business and Employers Confederation, Baggot Street, Dublin 2; Ms Marie O'Mahony, the Irish National Accreditation Board, Wilton Park House, Wilton Place, Dublin 2; Dr. Caroline Hussey, University, College Dublin, National University of Ireland, Belfield, Dublin 4; Mr. Julian de Spáinn, President, Union of Students of Ireland, 67 Amiens Street, Dublin 1; Mr. Jim Dorney, Teachers' Union of Ireland, 73 Orwell Road, Rathgar, Dublin 6; Fr. Nicholas Flavin, "Mooreville", Rathdowney, County Laois; Mr. Donal Kerr, Churchtown, Dublin 14.
