Vol. 534 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

Seán Ryan

Question:

293 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will report on the application from Swords Educate Together regarding the establishment of a school in Swords for September 2001; if he will recognise the board; and if he will provide every support necessary to enable the timescale for the establishment of the new school to be met. [10401/01]

A formal application for the recognition of a multi-denominational school in Swords, County Dublin, was submitted to my Department last year. In view of the difficulties encountered in securing suitable accommodation, the applicants found it necessary to postpone the proposed start-up date until September 2001.

A revised application for recognition of the proposed school was received in my Department earlier this year. This application is currently under consideration in conjunction with a recent report on the matter by the district inspector for the area. On completion of this examination, a decision on the application will be conveyed to the promoters.

In the event of recognition being granted, a board of management would be recognised, subject to its members being appointed in accordance my Department's rules of procedure.
