Vol. 534 No. 4

Written Answers - Landscape Policy.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

50 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands her views on the recent policy paper submitted to her by the Heritage Council, Towards Integrated Policies for Ireland's Landscape; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10697/01]

This policy paper highlights the significance and importance of landscape to the people of Ireland. The landscape approach used in the paper is designed to enable those with responsibility for the management and development of landscape, and whose use of land impacts on that landscape, to assess the policies they are implementing against specific indicators.

While landscape policy is primarily a matter for the Minister for the Environment and Local Government, it is also of relevance to the protection of heritage. In this context, the contents of the landscape policy paper will be taken account of as appropriate in the preparation of the national heritage plan.
