Vol. 534 No. 4

Written Answers - Intrepretative Centres.

Donal Carey

Question:

65 Mr. D. Carey asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands when she intends to have an interpretative centre established in Corofin, County Clare. [10764/01]

Grant aid of £500,000 each has been offered by me to community groups in both Corofin and Kilfenora, County Clare, to develop visitor facilities relating to aspects of the Burren National Park. In both cases, this offer was subject to each community formulating a viable proposal for the provision and operation of viable visitor facilities, including details of the funding envisaged in addition to my Department's contribution. Kilfenora has taken up this offer and construction of an enhanced facility is under way.

While the same offer was made to Corofin, the community group there has not succeeded in making progress to date. However, the offer of grant aid to Corofin remains in place as of now.
