As at Friday 6 April, 180,317 animals had been slaughtered under the purchase for destruction, or PFD, scheme, at a purchase cost of approximately £105 million. Operating costs of the scheme, including slaughtering fees, transport, freezing, handling, storage, etc. are estimated at £22 million to date.
