Vol. 535 No. 1

Written Answers - Curragh Military Hospital.

Jack Wall

Question:

184 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Defence the position on the availability of beds in the Curragh Military Hospital, County Kildare, to alleviate the overcrowding situation in Naas General Hospital, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12246/01]

The former Curragh Military Hospital was disestablished on 1 November 1998 as part of the re-organisation of the Defence Forces. The former Curragh Hospital was re-designated as a military medical facility and now provides military outpatient services and a small infirmary type facility for military patients. Former ward areas of the hospital have been either refurbished for other uses or are awaiting such refurbishment. In the circumstances, the question of providing public health service facilities at the Curragh for Naas General Hospital would not be feasible.
