Vol. 535 No. 1

Written Answers - Accident and Emergency Services.

Nora Owen

Question:

306 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of people who were seen in the accident and emergency departments of Beaumont, Mater Misericordiae and James Connolly Memorial hospitals in 2000 and to date in 2001; the number of staff who are available in each department now and at the commencement of 2000; the number of patients who were admitted to hospital; and the average waiting time giving the number of patients who had to wait for more than two hours. [11617/01]

The information requested by the Deputy is not routinely collected in my Department. However, accident and emergency statistics are an important measure of the operational efficiency of the service and are monitored on an ongoing basis by the individual health boards. Therefore my Department has asked the regional chief executive officer of the Eastern Regional Health Authority to compile the information requested and to forward it to the Deputy directly.
