Question:312 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health and Children if funding will be made available by his Department to secure additional places on a higher diploma course (details supplied). [11694/01]

My Department has reached agreement in principle with University College Dublin regarding the provision of 25 additional places on the higher diploma in nursing studies-public health nursing. In this context, my Department has agreed to fund one college lecturer post and a half-time executive assistant for a three year period initially and is also prepared in principle to fund two thirds of the cost of renting teaching accommodation. Costings are awaited from the university. I am confident agreement can be finalised very quickly after receipt of these details.
