Vol. 535 No. 1

Written Answers - Local Authority Staff.

Tony Gregory

Question:

387 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if some flexibility will be permitted to local authorities to accept applications for administrative and secretarial positions from persons with relevant experience who might not have completed the leaving certificate (details supplied). [11362/01]

My Department has drawn up proposals to amend the qualifications for the grade of clerical officer in the local authorities to permit candidates who have either a leaving certificate or relevant experience to compete for appointment. This amendment is in line with changes introduced for the same grades in the Civil Service and the health service. The Department is in consultation with IMPACT, the trade union representing clerical grades in the local authorities, regarding the proposals.
