Vol. 535 No. 1

Written Answers - Dublin Olympics Bid.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

73 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he has received representations favouring a Dublin Olympics bid; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11499/01]

I have only ever received one representation in my Department favouring a Dublin Olympics bid, which was received on 3 June 1998 from a private individual with an interest in the matter. As the Deputy is aware, in June 1996 the Dublin International Sports Council, produced a discussion document, An Irish Olympic Games, on the possibility of Ireland holding an Olympic Games, a document to which the Deputy alluded in his previous parliamentary Question No. 41 to me on this topic on 22 October 1997. I would point out that the question of Dublin hosting some future Olympic Games is a matter for the official authorities of the city with the approval of the Olympic Council of Ireland.

Question No. 74 answered with Question No. 54.
