Vol. 535 No. 1

Written Answers - Driving Licence Regulations.

Sean Fleming

Question:

403 Mr. Fleming asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reason persons over 70 years of age must pay £12 for a three year driving licence rather than £20 for a ten year driving licence; if he will review this issue; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11729/01]

Arising from a review of the overall driving licence fee arrangements by my Department, it is proposed to introduce more equitable licence fee arrangements for persons aged more than 70 years. Amending legislation is required to implement this change. The necessary proposed amendment has been provided for in the Motor Tax Bill, 2001.
