Vol. 535 No. 1

Written Answers - Young People's Facilities and Services Fund.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

579 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the extent of the young people's facilities and service fund for capital projects in 2001; the details of the projects; the allocations made to date; and when the remainder of the fund is likely to be allocated. [12230/01]

The Government set up the young people's facilities and services fund in 1998 to develop youth facilities, including sport and recreational facilities, and services in disadvantaged areas where a significant drug problem exists or has the potential to develop. The three year fund aims to attract young people in those areas at risk of becoming involved in drugs into more healthy and productive pursuits.

Over £46 million has been allocated to date to support a variety of measures under the fund. I will forward to the Deputy the details of the projects involved in the very near future.

It is expected that allocations under round two of the fund will be made in late 2002.
