Vol. 535 No. 1

Written Answers - Physical Education Facilities.

Jack Wall

Question:

680 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of schools in County Kildare which have tennis or basketball courts; if he will provide funding for repairs or the installation of such facilities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12287/01]

Information regarding the number of primary and post-primary schools in County Kildare which have tennis or basketball courts within the vested site is not available in my Department.

It is open to the management authorities of schools to seek grant-aid from my Department towards the cost of the provision or improvement of such facilities. Each application will be dealt with on its merits, subject to the current planning guidelines and the availability of capital funding.

Question:

681 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of primary schools in County Kildare which have physical education facilities; the number which have sought financial assistance for such facilities; the position of such applications; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12288/01]

The information is not available in the format requested by the Deputy and the level of resources required to compile the information sought would not be warranted. Should the Deputy require information on any particular school I would be glad to provide it.
