Vol. 535 No. 1

Written Answers - Harbours and Piers.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

144 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he is now in a position to allocate funding to develop Adam's Quay, Kinsale, County Cork as a fish landing quay with an ice plant; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12152/01]

Earlier this year Kinsale Harbour Commissioners put forward proposals to my Department for the development of Adams Quay, Kinsale, as a fish landing quay. Subsequently, on 17 January 2001, a delegation from Kinsale Harbour Commissioners had a meeting with officials from my Department to progress matters. The commissioners have recently forwarded a report on the fishing activity in the harbour and this will assist in the consideration process. The question of funding the proposed development at Adam's Quay will be kept under review, in the context of the funding available under the National Development Plan, 2000-06 for works at fishery harbours generally and overall national priorities.
