Vol. 535 No. 2

Written Answers - ASTI Dispute.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

259 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he proposes to open dialogue with teachers to prevent a recurrence of the recent dispute with ASTI; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12568/01]

There are regular meetings of the Teachers Conciliation Council, which is the agreed forum for discussing pay and conditions of teachers. The council is comprised of representatives of the three teachers unions, the managerial authorities of primary and post primary schools and the Departments of Education and Science and Finance. The majority of issues arising are resolved through negotiation and discussion at this forum which has continued to operate throughout the present ASTI dispute.
