Vol. 535 No. 4

Written Answers - Community Care.

Seán Barrett

Question:

197 Mr. Barrett asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans he has to provide respite and drop-in centres to assist carers of persons suffering from Parkinson's disease who need time to relax from the constant stress of being a carer and the need for the patient or carer who may need advice and up to date information on the services of trained medical personnel from time to time. [12950/01]

The provision of health related support services, including respite and information support services for carers of persons suffering from Parkinson's disease is a matter for the health boards. The development of these services is a matter for the health boards in accordance with the available funding and the priorities identified for the region.

Accordingly, I have asked the Eastern Regional Health Authority and the health boards to provide information on their plans for the development of these services and will provide the Deputy with the information required on receipt of same.
