Question:

245 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 363 of 28 November 2000, he will indicate the amount of money that has been paid by the State to each of the centres mentioned; the number of asylum seekers who have been accommodated and are presently accommo dated in each centre since it became available; and if he will make a statement on the matter. With reference to Parliamentary Question No. 363 of 28 November 2000, the up to date position in relation to the number of asylum seekers who have been accommodated and are currently accommodated in each centre in the Cork area since it became available, is contained in the table below:

The accommodation centre at Island View House, Morrison's Quay, Cork City closed on 2 March 2001.
In relation to costs incurred by the State, the rates payable to owners of hotels and guesthouses for full board accommodation for asylum seekers range from £147 to £189 per adult per week, inclusive of VAT. The rate applicable depends on the overall standard of the accommodation and the facilities provided.
