Vol. 535 No. 4

Written Answers - School Accommodation.

Enda Kenny

Question:

263 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received a report in respect of the poor quality of accommodation and the danger of electrical installations in a school (details supplied) in County Mayo; if he has examined this report; if he will take immediate action in respect of the electrical installation and guarantee that this is in a safe and non-dangerous condition; if he will arrange for an immediate inspection to be carried out on this installation; if he will further produce a report on the requirements of the school for the future; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12840/01]

While the building unit of my Department has received the report referred to by the Deputy, it should be noted that this report was commissioned by the school authorities.

The recommendations and findings of this report will be considered when a full examination of the school's long-term educational requirements has been completed by the planning section of my Department. This examination is well advanced and I have asked my officials to finalise it as quickly as possible in order that any matters requiring urgent attention at the school concerned can be addressed without undue delay.
