Vol. 535 No. 5

Written Answers - Tourism Promotion.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

193 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the extra funding his Department has made available for the promotion of the home market, in addition to the £500,000 provided prior to the foot and mouth outbreak, and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13136/01]

As I stated in reply to questions on related foot and mouth matters last week, Bórd Fáilte are at present rolling out a major tourism marketing reassurance campaign to counter the adverse impact of the crisis in all key markets, including the domestic market. Bórd Fáilte are sourcing £3 million of the budget from within their existing resources and I have secured the approval of the Minister for Finance for an additional allocation to date of £5 million. It is an operational matter for Bórd Fáilte to decide the level of funding which will be applied to the various markets.
