Vol. 536 No. 1

Written Answers - Special Educational Needs.

Pat Carey

Question:

176 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Education and Science the result of his inquiries relating to Parliamentary Question No. 386 of 6 March 2001; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13394/01]

I understand that the particular therapy referred to by the Deputy is used to support pupils with specific learning disabilities or dyslexia.

The role of therapeutic services generally, in responding to the special educational needs of such children, is among the matters being considered by the task force on dyslexia. I understand that the task force, which I established last October, is now nearing the completion of its work and I expect to receive its report shortly. I can assure the Deputy that I will be giving careful consideration to its recommendations, including any recommendations in relation to therapeutic services.
