Vol. 536 No. 1

Written Answers - School Transport.

John McGuinness

Question:

178 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if he is in receipt of a submission from the Owning school bus action committee; if so, if he will make a statement on each of the issues raised by the group; and if he is in a position to meet each or any of their requests. [13396/01]

The position generally is that a minimum of seven eligible children is required to establish a primary school transport service under the school transport scheme. In order to be eligible, children must live at least two miles from and be attending their nearest appropriate school.

A submission has been received from the Owning School Bus Action Committee, with a list of 15 pupils stated to reside two or more miles from the school. In the circumstances the matter has been referred to Bus Éireann for a report. The Deputy will be informed of the outcome as soon as possible.
