Vol. 536 No. 1

Written Answers - Electricity Supplies.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

41 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she has received recommendations from the ESB suggesting policy changes with the objective of ensuring adequate electricity supplies to the industrial and domestic market now and for the foreseeable future and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13272/01]

The Electricity Regulation Act, 1999 requires the Commission for Electricity Regulation, in carrying out its duties, to have regard for the need to promote the continuity, security and supply of electricity. The Act also lays a duty on the Commission to prepare, at regular intervals, forecast statements in respect of power supply, including generating capacity, the demand for electricity and flows and loading on the transmission system.

The provision of electricity supplies to various regions throughout the country is a day-to-day operational matter for ESB and Eirgrid and not one in which I have a function.
